DAY # 4
CHEW, CHEW, CHEW CHECK-IN
It’s day two of the chew…. keep chewing that food well! Notice your bite sizes. Are they big or small. Is it difficult to swallow due to a big bite or is your food pretty much the texture of applesauce?
Let go of any judgment and tune into the act of chewing. This can help keep you in the present moment, focusing on the textures and tastes of your food.
Last night, I had to force myself to put my chopsticks down and chew my food well. I recognized how fast I was eating without judgment, just observation. Since I have an intern, an overloaded schedule this month, AND an ankle injury I’m skipping meals because when I’m stressed, I lose my appetite.
But that can backfire because then when you DO feed yourself, you can set yourself up for overeating if you don’t eat slowly, chew your food well, put your utensil down between bites and consciously s-l-o-w down.
Great reminder for all of us to slow down. We are human, doing the best we can. Give yourself some kindness, compassion and grace and recognize our emotional state can dictate our actions. When we tune into our emotional state we can become aware of our personal patterns and when we become aware of our personal patterns with compassion, it opens the gate to change in the moment.
Give that body some appreciation and thank your belly tonight for digesting all the food it did!
